John Sebastian

Before John Sebastian ( Lead Singer of the Sixties Group The Lovin’ Spoonful) appeared at the Colonial Theatre in Keene
I got a chance to talk with him and he told me about his Keene Connection.

Here’s what I found out. Sebastian nourished
his musical skills summers at the Apple Hill Center for chamber music in Sullivan, ( not far from Keene) and in the early 60’s he spent a lot of evenings hanging around Noel Jean’s music store in Keene. I told John my favorite Spoonful song is “summer in the city.” What’s yours?

The Lovin’ Spoonful had seven top ten hits between 1965–1966. Sebastian wrote and sang the # 1 song “Welcome Back”, the theme song from the Welcome Back Kotter TV show. and John Sebastian’s Godmother was Vivian Vance, she played the role of Ethel on “I Love Lucy”
